In urgent need of sustenance one August lunchtime mid-excursion along the Sicilian coast, we stumbled upon this establishment. Its quiet, shaded location was the perfect antidote to our weary legs and hungry stomachs. The pizzas were delicious and my Calizone Del Chiclope (cyclops wrap?) was a pleasant surprise. With very reasonable prices and friendly service, there’s no reason not to recommend.

Absolutely amazing experience! Archimedes is a culinary gem that surpasses all expectations. With a rich heritage spanning five generations over 80 years, this family-owned establishment is a testament to tradition and excellence. Giovanni, the gracious owner, personally attends to each table, adding a wonderful touch of warmth to the dining experience. Unlike the majority of the restaurants on the streets of Siracusa that use an electric oven, Archimedes preserves authenticity by its distinguished commitment to the time-honored wood oven method. The staff were very attentive and kind and encourage you to customize your meal and experiment with the delicious food and flavors they have to offer. We received a tour of the kitchen and restaurant, led by Giovanni, which unveiled the restaurant's truly captivating history, akin to a museum adorned with cherished family memorabilia and famous Sicilian works of art. While renowned for their exceptional pizzas—the best we had in Sicily—we also fell head over heels for their seafood. A visit to Ortigia/Siracusa would be incomplete without indulging in the culinary delights of Archimedes. Truly a gastronomic journey not to be missed.

Giovanni was incredibly kind and took the time to share the history of this beautiful, historic restaurant. He recommended the caponata—truly the best I’ve ever had—and suggested three pastas for our family to share so we could try a bit of everything. Everything was so authentic and delicious. Bonus points for tourists: they have air conditioning!

Great seafood oriented stop tucked in an alley out of the bustle of the nearby tourist thoroughfare. Nice patio with umbrellas for shade. The seafood “chowder” was chock full of mussels plus clams, squid, shrimp and fish. Nice and friendly servers.

We stopped in for lunch during our wanderings. What an amazing place that’s family run for 4 generations! Including the manager! Beautiful food, wonderful staff. Thanks you! Giovanni was a lovely owner who showed me through all the history of the ancient place.

This is a very special place where film director Tornatore and an actor Monica Bellucci had dinner here during their filming period. The indoor vibes are charming, full of paintings and old pictures, the courtyard has lovely lemon trees. Excellent homemade food with fresh fish. I eat here always when I come to Siracusa. I would suggest to try pasta Archimede, Nero di seppia, sword fish alla Siracusana (on the picture) or seafood risotto. Their specialty is the whole fish baked in a salt crust (expect a visual surprise by your table) ;)
